When I fly to a location I can only carry a few pieces of equipment and all I can do is videotape..., or stand-by to videotape. The hourly/daily rate is the same regardless.

 

When I fly I have to spend hours going through airport security each way, have to keep the ticket open ended because we don't know what the schedule is, have to rent a car to go back and forth between the shipyard (or site), all just for the sake of videotaping. While waiting for the installtion schedule to play out I still have motel and per diem, rental car, and the same daily rate applies for stand-by as it does for working.

 

If I need to bring my assistant the cost of a typical airline ticket is doubled.

 

My Mobile Production Unit is overall less expensive than a hurry up airplane ticket to just about anywhere along the Gulf Coast because I can take ALL of my equipment, work to the schedule of the project, stay as long as needed, I have my own vehicle, I can videotape, work in CAD, loft 3D designs, and start editing on the spot! In other words I can start working on the project on location while waiting for the money shots!

 

In addition to my daily rates the cost is $250.00 delivery and set up for the first 100 miles from Houston and $.75 per mile afterwards, plus $65.00 day, plus expenses.

 

(Example: We're going to videotape an installation in Mobile. It's 493 miles Houston to Mobile. $250.00 for the first 100 miles and $.75 for 393 miles = $294.75 for a total of $544.75 to put the MPU on location in Mobile. If located in a friendly shipyard with a 30 amp electrical hookup our daily rate for 5 days is $325.00. If at the KOA campground for 5 days then add $63.60/day = $318.00 (KOA's Rate) = $643.00 to stay near the location of activity for 5 days. If the schedule changes and we have to stay an additional two days simply add the MPU daily rate plus the KOA daily rate to keep the unit on location and ready.) Again, our houly/daily rate is the same regardless.
